Intro to Me
Hello! My name is Amy Rauen. Although I’m a member of the COMET cohort, I’m not actually a teacher. I’m a contract Instructional Designer and Content Writer in the K-12 industry. Currently, I’m working from home for a company called K12, designing 2nd grade web-based math curriculum. I recently published 13 supplemental math readers through Harcourt School Publishers, seven of which are now available on amazon.com. It’s very exciting to be published! In my spare time, I volunteer for a cat rescue organization and do massive amounts of homework.
I have no experience with blogs or podcasts. As for wikis, I’ve used wikipedia, but that’s the extent of it, so I’m really looking forward to what I’ll learn in this class.
My two ideas for a final project:
1. Create a wiki for the ID’s I work with that we can use to share resources we find for design ideas and inspiration.
2. Create a wiki for SDSU’s EDTEC students that we can use to compile and describe all the awesome technologies we know about. Many of us are familiar with technologies that others have never heard of, so this would be a great resource to go to when trying to determine which technologies are available and would be best for creating a certain product.

Amy, will you save some time after your lecture on Sat. to talk further about your project? I want to find something that works well for your needs.

Will do! I also have another idea that may be more appropriate: A blog for 4th grade students studying the Gold Rush. Students would write blog entries from the point of view of an invented person during the Gold Rush, such as a miner, a traveler on the Oregon Trail, a Native American, etc. Kind of like journal entries.

Amy,
I like your ideas for your final project. Sounds like either one would be quite useful.

I really like your second idea for a final project. I keep thinking I need to go on to the Moodle and get all the tech tools links that we got from classes past (before they disappear). A wiki would be pefect for that.

Hi there.. I am very interested in your 2nd grade math project! I teach 2nd grade and I am in a 2 year CGI math professional development course as well. Your project ideas sound great.

Thank you for the award for the brightest blog. It was between that design and another pink one. What can I say, I love pink.

Great ideas for your projects.

Amy as usual, you are thinking way ahead of where I’m at on the final project. You have two very useful ideas, and I am still working my way through the haze.

Amy
I love the idea of having a wiki to keep track of all the ideas and info generated during these classes. Half the time I forget what we’ve discussed by the next week! It looks like you’ve had some trouble getting your avatar to load. It took me several attempts before I showed up as anything other than an abstract design. I wonder if that says something about my appearance?

I like the 2nd idea! It sounds very useful.

Amy, I think it would be amazing to create a wiki that all of us SDSU edtec students could utilize. It’s so hard to keep ahead of the game with all of the new inventions and websites that are being created. This would be a great way for us to keep up with things and share ideas.

I like the idea of collecting tech resources. Being able to access tech that is reviewed and rated by a COMETeer would be an excellent resource for me. There’s so much out there on the web. It seems like I spend a lot of time poking around to find resources.

Must be cool being an ID. See you Saturday.

Amy, just saw your Webquest, AWESOME! I was impressed and inspired. Thank you.
I better get back to work.

Hi Amy what a great site, your job sounds wonderful and interesting! Both of your project ideas sound great, it would be nice to have a resource for EdTec with all the information we are learning.

Hi Amy-
You have an interesting situation. It’s great that you’re getting into technology training while you develop curriculum. Was it hard to join COMET late? I’m trying to catch up after 3 weeks, I can’t imagine 2 semesters. Or, did you take the first courses with EDTec but not with COMET?

Use the rubric to come up with your 5 posts about the final project.
Looking forward to hearing what your plans are..
